Tuesday 27th October was a special day for the St Thomas' school community with the official opening of our brand new adventure playground!!

This morning we started the day with a special gathering to open the new playground. It was wonderful to have Father Wayne join us and the whole school joined him in saying a special blessing. The final part of the opening saw the Year 6 leaders cut the red ribbon to offically declare the playground 'open.' After a school-wide student competition to name the ship, the name was finally revealed as the 'SS Not Meant To Float.' With the formalities over it was time to head into class and think about how exciting it would be to play in the new playground at recess time!

Some of the new features of the playground include:

* VERY difficult monkey bars (on an incline)

* Flying fox

* HUGE ship with a very high Crow's Nest

* Low ropes

* Fireman's pole

* Water pump

* Enormous cargo net for climbing

... and much, much more!

At recess the students were walked through the different parts of the playground and then FINALLY everyone was allowed to play! It was certainly busy, with lots of laughter and smiles!!! Lunch time again saw students enjoying all aspects of the playground.

There was an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from students (both young and old) and so far the most popular parts seem to be the flying fox and monkey bars.

It certainly looks like the new playground is a massive hit with the students, staff and parents of St Thomas'.

A huge thank you to the St Thomas' P&F and Board for their support toward creating this amazing new playground. The St Thomas' community (especially the students) is very grateful.

Have a look at some of the photos of the students (and teachers!) enjoying the latest addition to our wonderful school!

We hope you get to come and have a play on it soon...
